What is the Selma to Montgomery Relay and Bike Ride?

It is a 51-mile race commemorating the 1965 Civil Rights March, organized by Walk Jog Run Club, LLC. Participants can join as runners, cyclists, or virtual participants.

When and where does the race take place?

The event takes place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, starting in Selma, Alabama, and ending at the State Capitol in Montgomery, Alabama.

What are the registration deadlines?

  • Regular Registration: May 19, 2025 – October 14, 2025
  • Late Registration: October 16, 2025 – February 22, 2026

How do I register?

Registration is available online through RunSignUp.

What types of registration are available?

You can register as a Relay Team, a Cyclist (with or without transport), or as a Virtual Participant.


Team and Participant Information

How many people can be on a relay team?

Teams can consist of 1 to 9 participants.

What is the difference between Ultra and Regular teams?

  • Ultra Teams: 1 to 4 runners covering the full 51 miles.
  • Regular Teams: 5 to 9 runners, allowing for shorter individual legs.

Can a driver also be a runner?

Yes, but arrangements must be made for proper and safe exchanges.

Can team members be substituted?

  • Yes, substitutions are allowed until February 22, 2026.
  • If moving to another team, the current captain must contact support@wjrclub.com.

Are there age restrictions?

  • Yes, participants must be 18 or older to register independently.
  • Runners aged 13-17 may participate with parental consent.
  • No participants under 12 years old are allowed.

Cyclist Information

What are the options for cyclists?

  • With Transport: $160 regular, $185 late. Bikes are transported to the start. (Capped at 400 participants)
  • Without Transport: $125 regular, $150 late. Cyclists are responsible for their own transport.

Can I add transport later?

Yes, but you will be invoiced, and there is no guarantee if the cap is reached.

What type of bike is allowed?

  • Standard bikes and e-bikes are permitted.
  • Note: E-bike riders are not eligible for awards.

Where is bike drop-off?

Friday, March 14, 2025, at Montgomery Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.

What should I bring on race day?

Helmet, reflective vest, lights, water, energy snacks, and ID.


Travel and Accommodation

Where can I find recommended hotels?

A list of recommended hotels and van rentals is available on the Selma to Montgomery Relay website.

Are there shuttle services for cyclists?

Yes, cyclists with transport will be shuttled from the Renaissance Hotel on race day.


Awards and Ceremony

What awards are given out?

  • Awards for Cyclists, Ultra Teams, Regular Teams, and Solo Ultra categories.
  • Cyclists using e-bikes are not eligible for awards.

When and where is the awards ceremony?

It is held at the Montgomery State Capitol after the race concludes.


Event Policies

Can I get a refund if I can't attend?

No, all registrations are non-refundable. Transfers are allowed until February 22, 2026.

What happens if the event is canceled?

If canceled before November 10, 2025, you may receive a refund minus fees. After that date, the event will be postponed, and no refunds will be given.

Are there any prohibited items?

Yes, items like strollers, skates, scooters, motorized devices, pets, and offensive decorations are prohibited.

What happens if there is severe weather?

The event will proceed rain or shine. In severe weather, race officials may delay, modify, or cancel the event for safety.


Logistics and Race Day Information

Where do I pick up my race package?

Package pickup is at the Montgomery Multiplex at Cramton Bowl on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Can someone else pick up my race packet?

Yes, with the registration confirmation number and a valid ID.

Where do runners and cyclists check in on race day?

  • Cyclists with transport check in at the Renaissance Hotel between 3:30 AM and 4:30 AM.
  • Relay teams check in at Rexall Drugs before the 6:30 AM start

What medical services are available?

Emergency medical units will be stationed along the route for participant safety.
